Once the Point of Sale is set up, open it from the side menu or from the Home screen. Staff can also open it from the log in screen with the Point of Sale pin, see Point of Sale pin.
Setting up
Open the side menu in the Bitaroo Express app and choose 'Setup Point of Sale'. Pick a 4-digit pin, then decide whether to convert each payment to AUD automatically and whether to withdraw that AUD to your bank account automatically. Both choices can be changed later via 'Settings' → 'Point of Sale'. See Auto convert to AUD and Auto withdraw AUD.
Charging a customer
- Type the amount on the keypad. It is entered in AUD, or tap the button beside the amount to enter it in bitcoin or sats instead. The other value is shown underneath as you type.
- Tap 'Charge'. Bitaroo creates a Lightning invoice for that amount and shows it as a QR code.
- Your customer scans the QR code with any Lightning wallet and pays. If they cannot scan it, tap 'Copy' or 'Share' to send them the invoice text instead.
- As soon as the payment arrives, the screen changes to 'Payment Received'. Tap back to return to the keypad for the next sale.
Each charge can be up to AU$10,000. The Point of Sale accepts Lightning payments only, so your customer needs a wallet that can pay a Lightning invoice. An on-chain bitcoin payment cannot be made to a Point of Sale invoice.
How the bitcoin amount is worked out
The bitcoin amount on the invoice is calculated from the AUD amount you entered, at Bitaroo's rate at the moment the invoice is created. If 'Auto convert bitcoin to AUD?' is on, the payment is converted to AUD as soon as it arrives. If it is off, the bitcoin is credited to your Bitaroo account balance and stays as bitcoin.
Keeping track of sales
'Recent Sales' sits below the keypad. Each row shows the status, the date, the AUD amount and the bitcoin amount. A sale that is still waiting for payment shows an eye icon. Tap it to bring the invoice back up. Tap 'More' to open the full Point of Sale report under Reports, which you can also export.
Refunds
The Point of Sale has no refund function, and a Lightning payment cannot be reversed once it has been made. If you need to refund a customer, arrange that with them directly.
Settings
'Settings' → 'Point of Sale' is where you change the pin, choose whether the Point of Sale appears on the Home and log in screens and in the side menu, and turn Auto convert and Auto withdraw on or off.
