An API key lets a program connect to your Bitaroo account on your behalf, for example a portfolio tracker, a tax reporting tool, or your own trading script. API keys are available to verified account holders who meet the requirements below.
Who can create an API key?
You need all three of the following.
- An active, verified Bitaroo account. Identity verification must be complete, and if your account requires visa verification, that must be approved as well.
- Video verification for API access. This is a short selfie video recorded specifically for API access, so you may be asked for one even if you have sent us a video before. You upload it from the API screen itself. Hold both sides of your driver licence close to the camera so the details are clear, and state your full name, the date, and that you are requesting API access. We review the video and respond within 2 business days. There is more on why we ask for a video in Video Verification.
- Two-factor authentication using an authentication app. An authentication app is required for API access. Two-factor authentication by email secures the rest of your account but is not accepted here. See Everything You Need to Know About Two-Factor Authentication (2FA).
Where are API keys created?
API keys are created and managed on the Bitaroo website at trade.bitaroo.com.au, under Account → API. The Bitaroo app does not create or manage API keys. A key created on the website works for the API in the usual way.
How many API keys can I have?
You can hold up to 5 active API keys at a time. Deleting a key you no longer use frees a slot.
