You can send bitcoin from Bitaroo on-chain or over the Lightning Network, both from the same Send screen. This guide covers both.
Since the introduction of Australia's Travel Rule, the first time you send on-chain to a new address, Bitaroo asks you to verify that the address belongs to a wallet you control. This is a one-time step per address and is explained below.
Step 1: Open Send and enter the destination
|
Step 2: Verify a new address (on-chain)The first time you send on-chain to a new address, Bitaroo asks you to prove the address belongs to a wallet you control. Choose the method that suits you:
Each method has its own step-by-step article. Once an address is verified, it is remembered, so you will not need to verify it again for future sends. If you do not complete verification, the send is held as "pending" rather than sent. Your funds stay in your account, and you can finish or cancel a pending send at any time from your recent sends. |
Step 3: Confirm and sendReview the address, amount, fee and total. For your security, sending requires two-factor authentication (2FA), and sending to a new address may also require a code sent to your email. Enter the code or codes, then select Submit. |
Sending over Lightning
The same Send screen handles Lightning. Paste a Lightning invoice or a Lightning address and Bitaroo will detect it.
| Because ownership cannot be proven cryptographically on the Lightning Network, you will be asked to confirm that the destination is a self-custodial wallet, one where you or the person you are paying hold the keys. Tick the box and select Continue. |
| If the destination is a known custodial service, such as an exchange or a hosted wallet, the send is declined. Your funds are safe and have not left your account. Use a self-custodial wallet and try again. If you believe a destination has been declined in error, contact our support team. |
Auto Sends
You can also set up Bitcoin Auto Sends to send automatically when your balance reaches a threshold.
Important
- Bitcoin transactions are irreversible. Please make sure you are sending to the correct address.
- Sending bitcoin requires 2FA to be enabled on your account.
Privacy Matters
Bitaroo built this verification model to protect your privacy, as well as the privacy of all our other users.
The Travel Rule, introduced on 1 July 2026, forces exchanges to routinely share customers' personally identifiable information with globally centralised third parties whenever bitcoin moves to or from a custodial service and, in the process, exposes the exchange's hot wallet to chain surveillance corporations.
Bitaroo chose to opt out of these "information-sharing" arrangements.
By verifying that you control your own wallet, we can keep your personal information out of unnecessary hands.
This is why we ask you to confirm self-custody before you send, whether on-chain or over Lightning.
