Overview
When you send bitcoin to an address you have not used before on Bitaroo, you will be asked to complete an extra confirmation step before the send is processed. This is a security measure designed to protect your funds in the event your account is ever accessed without your knowledge.
How the confirmation works
When sending bitcoin to a new address on Bitaroo, a 5-digit confirmation code will be sent to your registered email address. This applies to all users regardless of your 2FA method.
If you have App 2FA enabled, you will also need to enter your authenticator app code. Both codes must be entered before the send will proceed.
If you have Email 2FA enabled, the 5-digit confirmation code is the only code required.
Once you have successfully sent to an address, it is saved to your account. Future sends to that same address will not require the email confirmation again.
Step-by-step
If you have App 2FA enabled:
- Initiate a send from your Bitaroo account.
- Enter the new destination address and amount.
- Enter your authenticator app 2FA code when prompted.
- Check your registered email inbox for a 5-digit confirmation code from Bitaroo.
- Enter the code on the confirmation screen to complete the send.
If you have Email 2FA enabled:
- Initiate a send from your Bitaroo account.
- Enter the new destination address and amount.
- Check your registered email inbox for a 5-digit confirmation code from Bitaroo.
- Enter the code on the confirmation screen to complete the send.
Not receiving the confirmation email?
If the email has not arrived within a few minutes
- Check your spam or junk folder.
- Confirm your registered email address is correct under Account > General.
- If your email provider is filtering Bitaroo emails, whitelist the sender domain or consider updating your account email to a provider that does not block them (such as Proton).
If you have checked all of the above and the email is still not arriving, contact our support team with your registered email address and we will investigate.
Why does Bitaroo require this?
If someone gains access to your Bitaroo account, this step prevents them from sending your bitcoin to an address of their own without also having access to your email inbox. It is an extra barrier that exists specifically to protect your funds.
Note: If you are using Email 2FA rather than App 2FA, your login code and your send confirmation both arrive via email. Ensure your email account has strong security in place, as it is the primary access point for both.
