Your Bitaroo Wallet keys exist in exactly one place: your phone. Bitaroo does not hold a copy, and the Wallet does not sync to the cloud. What happens if something goes wrong depends on what you still have.
Lost or broken phone, recovery phrase safe. Your bitcoin is safe. Install the Bitaroo app on a new phone, sign in, choose to restore a Wallet, and enter your 12-word recovery phrase. Your Wallet and its bitcoin will reappear. Nothing more is needed.
Phone works, recovery phrase lost. Your bitcoin is safe for now, because the working app still holds the keys. But you are one lost phone away from losing the funds, so act now: create a new Wallet, back up its recovery phrase properly, and send your bitcoin from the old Wallet to the new one. Then remove the old Wallet.
Both lost. There is no way to recover the Wallet. Not by Bitaroo, and not by anyone else. This is the hard edge of self-custody: the same property that means nobody can take your bitcoin also means nobody can restore it without the phrase.
Two details worth knowing:
- A phone backup, including an encrypted one restored onto a new phone, does not carry your Wallet keys. Restoring a backup will not restore your Wallet. Only the recovery phrase does that.
- Your Account is completely separate. Funds in your Bitaroo Account are not affected by a lost phone. Sign in from any device as usual.
